Committed--co-mit-ted (kə-ˈmit-ted) the state or an instance of being obligated or emotionally impelled
Are you really committed to sales or do you just happen to be involved in sales? If you want to know the difference, consider a bacon and egg sandwich. In a bacon and egg sandwich, the chicken is involved, but the pig is committed.
Yeah, I know that it's an old joke, but number 1, I think it's funny and number 2, it illustrates my point, which is, in order to succeed in sales, you have to be fully committed. In fact, I'll even go so far as to say that the more committed that you are to your sales career, the more successful that you'll be. And vice a versa, the less committed, the less successful. So if you're not willing to read up on the latest sales books and improve your selling skills on a regular basis, then you'll never really be able to achieve the pinnacle of your industry in sales.
Can you imagine a soldier engaged in a heated battle that isn't fully committed? Or a fire-fighter battling a four alarm blaze that's not committed. Or a professional football player just going through the motions? When it comes to life and limb, our attention is focused and our commitment is complete because anything else would be suicide. So why face your sales career with half-hearted attempts and less than complete commitment? If you really are serious about a career in sales, go all out. I'm reminded of the story about the pole vaulter, trying to reach a new personal high. He kept trying and trying and trying without success. He was just about to give up when he got some wonderful advice from his coach. His coach told him, "just throw your heart over the bar and your body will follow." What wonderful advice. If you will just follow that advice and throw your heart into your work, you'll be amazed at the success that will follow. If you are committed to being successful at sales, nothing or no one can stop you.
