| Energetic Energy can carry you a long way in sales. A lack of energy can kill a sale and eventually if you don't figure out a way to become a more energetic person, it can kill your sales career. Being energetic is a quality that requires optimism. A pessimistic person is seldom energetic. It's hard to have much energy when you're not very optimistic. I think that If you feel good about the future, you're naturally going to have an extra bounce in your step. So if you want more energy, you first have to light your own fire by being more upbeat and positive. One way to create instant energy, both for yourself and the person that you are talking to is to smile. Being energetic can be overdone, so be careful to not come on as too buoyant. Too much enthusiasm can turn some people off, so be aware of that. This is especially the case when it comes to sales people. Many people initially have a natural distrust of salespeople when they first meet them, and if they think your energy and enthusiasm are fake, that can create an immediate wall between you and them. With that in mind, sometimes it's a good idea to match your mood and mannerisms to the person that you are talking to. This is one way to insure that you don't come on too strong. But of course, if you happen to be dealing with someone that is so low keyed, that they look like they might fall asleep at any minute, you might not want to match them. Smiling creates energy and energy creates sales, sales create commissions and commisions create smiles. It's a cycle that feeds on itself. |
