Fun Are you fun to be around? Since I advocate relationship selling, the more fun that you are to be around, the better you will be able to build relationships with you customers and prospects. Our lives are ordinary enough without you taking yourself too seriously. "Laugh and the world laughs with you, cry and you cry alone." Humor is one of the best ways to gain your audiences attention, regardless of who they are. Everyone likes to laugh. Everyone prefers a good mood over a solemn mood. If you are one of those who takes life too seriously, then lighten up. If you are fun to be around, then people will like you. And people buy things from people that they like.
One other thing to keep in mind is that in order to be fun, you have to have fun. If you hate your job and you make it more drudgery than fun, you will not be able to succeed over a long period of time. You might be able to force yourself to work hard for a short period of time, but eventually, you will burn out. So if you do not like sales or you don't like the product you are selling or the company that you are working for, make a switch now, before it's too late.
So often I hear people say that they are interested in a career in sales because they hear that is the way to make money. Though that may be true, starting off you will probably struggle. If you don't like what you're doing, and you aren't making any money at it, you won't last long enough to develop your skills to the point where you will start to make money.
