Wisdom is the ability, developed through experience, insight and
reflection, to discern truth and exercise good judgment.

Wisdom is often confused with knowledge.  Knowledge can be gained from a book, wisdom can
only be gained from experience.  You can be born smart, you can be born with intelligence, but
you cannot be born with wisdom because wisdom can only come from experience.  That is why
wisdom teeth are called wisdom teeth, because they appear so late in life.

We learn more from our failures than we learn from our successes.  Perhaps that's because
our failures have more impact on us and become much more ingrained in our psyche than our
successes do.  It is wisdom that teaches us to harvest useful lessons and knowledge from our
failures, losses and disappointments.  It is wisdom that teaches us through trial and error,
hopefully never repeating the same mistake twice.

Wisdom is typically associated with the hallmark of "high" or "superior" values.  A sociopatic
criminal cannot be considered wise, regardless of how intelligent or experienced he may be.
That is because wisdom is almost a spiritual quality.  An intelligent criminal can be considered
diabolical.  Diabolical is the opposite of wisdom.  Wisdom is a giving, nurturing trait.
